Mom and pop business
Island Café
The Island Café in Long Island KS is owned by Sylvia Kats and Stuart Kats (Sylvia’s son). It has been in business for over thirty years and is located on the west side ofMain Streetin an old church building. It serves breakfast: rolls and coffee and lunch Monday-Friday. Lunch includes daily specials, grill items, and homemade pies and desserts. The café was opened in 1977 by Sylvia and AJ Kats. AJ did the cooking while Sylvia waited the tables. It is a classic mom and pop business. They started out providing good food and small town atmosphere to their loyal customers and still to this day have the same reputation. Throughout many years of business all of their children and grandchildren have helped at the café. It is a special place for all of them.
Their longest running customer is Steve Cox who started doing business with the Island Café in 1978. He along with Jim Cochran created a sandwich for the café which now the Island Cafe is known for this sandwich. This sandwich is called the C&C which is a chicken, ham, and cheese sandwich. All of regular customers know and love this sandwich. The hog farms, local farmers, work crews, and local citizens keep the Island Café alive and striving. If you want to have a good lunch, head to the Island Café.
