Heartland Marketing is a wholesale distributor of quality farm and petroleum products. They have been serving the industry for over 22 years. Heartland Marketing prides themselves in providing the highest quality of farm, agricultural, hardware, and petroleum products and great customer services. They always try to find the best quality products that are made in the United States to help support the economy.

With a full line of top quality products, Heartland Marketing is your dependable supplier for hardware, petroleum, agricultural and farm products. The business is open Monday – Friday from 8:00am – 5:30pm.

Lynn and Janeen Wallgren started Heartland Marketing 22 years ago to fulfill the need of someone to make the needed dealer calls for the rural farm stores, fuel stations, etc. that the larger big city companies did not and would not take the time for the “small” orders sales. Lynn has been in sales for over 45 years with prior experience in management positions with an international company for several years. He is a “hands on” manager. For example: when you call in with an order or question you are just as likely to get the boss answering the phone or catch him out on the forklift unloading a semi truck.

Lynn and Janeen Wallgren

Their short term goal was to deliver and service these rural accounts. Their long term goal was to branch out further, which they currently are selling their product in 48 states and have shipped overseas, but still not forgetting the original plan of service and commitment to the smaller customers so they too may stay in business. Heartland has made three physical warehouse location moves to accommodate the growth they have experienced over the past 22 years. They presently ship to 48 states by UPS and truck lines depending on the size of the order.

The Island Café in Long Island KS is owned by Sylvia Kats and Stuart Kats (Sylvia’s son). It has been in business for over thirty years and is located on the west side ofMain Streetin an old church building. It serves breakfast: rolls and coffee and lunch Monday-Friday. Lunch includes daily specials, grill items, and homemade pies and desserts. The café was opened in 1977 by Sylvia and AJ Kats. AJ did the cooking while Sylvia waited the tables. It is a classic mom and pop business. They started out providing good food and small town atmosphere to their loyal customers and still to this day have the same reputation. Throughout many years of business all of their children and grandchildren have helped at the café. It is a special place for all of them.

Their longest running customer is Steve Cox who started doing business with the Island Café in 1978. He along with Jim Cochran created a sandwich for the café which now the Island Cafe is known for this sandwich. This sandwich is called the C&C which is a chicken, ham, and cheese sandwich. All of regular customers know and love this sandwich. The hog farms, local farmers, work crews, and local citizens keep the Island Café alive and striving. If you want to have a good lunch, head to the Island Café.

In 1930, Raymond Witmer moved to Phillipsburg to manage the Curtis Drug. Raymond purchased the pharmacy in 1947. Since that time, there has been a Witmer standing behind the pharmacy counter to fill prescriptions for area residents. In 1955, son Jack joined his father in this business. Raymond partially retired in the 1960′s and died in 1978, leaving Jack to run the store by himself.

In 1986, Phillipsburg native Steve Schick came to work for Jack and joined him in serving our community.

Jack’s son, Eric came back to Phillipsburg in 1991, to be apart of this longstanding family business. Jack sold the business to Steve and Eric on January 1st, 1997, where they continue to serve the area as the pharmacists.

Phillips County Economic Development Board and Staff thank the Witmer family for their loyalty and service to our area. We are fortunate to have such dedicated individuals in our community.

Congratulations on 80 year in business!
