Wind Cooperative Development:  A group of landowners in northern Phillips County are working directly with Bannister Capital Advisors, LLC. The area was chosen by the Bannister Capital Advisors as a reliable and marketable wind resource location of wind developers to consider in the north central and north eastern area of Phillips County.  This area initially covered only portions of Glenwood, Greenwood, Walnut, and Freedom townships.  Now has expanded to also include portions of Grant, Dayton, Crystal and Sumner. Although the process for this project is far from any tower being built, it is moving in a forward motion.

Majestic Community Theatre Facade Renovation Project: In 2009, Phillips County Economic Development, Discover Phillipsburg Main Street, the Morgan and Cole Foundations partnered with the Majestic Community Theatre board.  This partnership was developed to plan and implement the needed facade renovations to this historic building in our downtown area.  In December, a grant application was submitted to the Small Communities Improvement Program (SCIP), through the Kansas Department of Commerce.   The  requirements for this grant include a 40% match  in volunteer labor and local donations.

At the end of May 2011, our total match requirements have been 99% met.  The total match is at $141,705.75 and we have requested $93, 020.40 from the SCIP award.  The match for labor is currently at  $42, 334.18, $1,117.70 in administration and $98,253.87 in donated land/equipment. With one-hundred and seventy six volunteers working to complete this project.

The existing Marquee has been refurbished; the blade is ordered and should be installed in August.

In order to complete the project, the following needs to be finished:

  • Six more windows on the upper west side.
  • Painting completed on the Cornice and wooden trim
  • Installation of the steel exit doors on the Southside
  • Painting the stairway on the Southside
  • Finish bricklaying on State Farm Storefront
  • Hardiboard installation on the East wall
  • Concrete repair on the Northeast wall
